LEGO Dimensions

LEGO just keeps on producing toys that kids love and the LEGO Dimensions is one of the sets that you can bet will be on every kid’s wish list. The Dimensions set of these toys was created not long after the release of The LEGO Movie.
The movie was such a hit that toys were needed to allow kids to be more interactive in a virtual world as well as still have the feel of the original LEGO play. This one is part real play and part computer game.
The fun begins thanks to the portal or vortex that swept away some of the well known characters. These heroes were drawn into another dimension where they had to fight for what was right and defeat evil villains who wanted to run the show.
The set is an endless time of adventure and imagination as kids travel through the different worlds to assist the heroes in making sure that order is once again restored. With each of the different sets that are available, kids will be given different minifigures.
These minifigures are exclusive to one set but they can all be used in combination with other minifigures. And what one minifigure has another one can use in a different world. For example, if one minifigure hero has a vehicle that he uses, in the Dimensions world, another hero can also use that vehicle.
The Dimensions sets are the most interactive LEGO creation so far and there are limitless ways that a child can create different missions and adventures. Whatever his imagination likes is how he can link the different heroes on teams or as individuals.
There are several different sets that are suitable for Xbox One, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii U and PlayStation 4. Each of these sets have different minifigures and different tools and vehicles.
If your child doesn’t have any of the LEGO Dimensions yet, you’ll want to start with the starter pack. This is the portal that allows the physical minifigures your child has to enter the game.
While this is a computer game, it’s much more than that. It’s also a great learning tool because kids will have to use their thinking skills to solve the way around obstacles to achieve the character’s goal.
LEGO offers a ton of different characters, so your child can start out with his or her favorite. You can get ones like DC ComicsBatman or Lord of the Rings characters. Each of these sets is compatible with the other, so you’ll be able to expand both the characters and the fun that your child can have.
Happy Gaming!

WowWee MiPosaur Track Ball

Some toys are just so much fun that kids hate to stop playing with them. The WowWee MiPosaur Track Ball is one of those toys and it’s so fun. It’s like having a robotic dinosaur and a virtual prehistoric pet all rolled into one. This is recommended for ages 8-15.
The intelligent capability of the toy is nothing short of amazing and kids are going to want this dino bot. He can recognize the different ways that kids communicate with him.
He balances his body using two wheels on the back and he follows the trackball on the front. The trackball is what kids will use to begin the different modes that feature what the Miposaur is able to do.
The MiPosaur can interact with kids and obey their commands whether they’re given by gesture, through the TrackBall, or by using the app. Because the creature has a mind of his own, he does have a personality that will allow him to display moods.
So don’t be surprised if you give him a command and he has a bit of an attitude about it. Kids can play with the creature, train him and engage in games, too. The three ways that kids can engage with the toy are with the app, using their hand or having the toy follow the TrackBall.
When kids use hand gestures, the Miposaur will respond based on his mood. So how he reacts in one instance won’t necessarily be the same the next time a child does the same hand gesture.
He can react with excitement or he might show curiosity about what you’re doing. Sometimes, he won’t be too thrilled with the gesture and will clearly show that he’s annoyed.
There are 10 commands he’ll follow in this mode. If kids use the TrackBall with the pet, he’ll follow it around thanks to the BeaconSense technology in the ball. There are 6 game modes that can be used with the TrackBall.
These are going for a walk, fetching an object, dino in the middle, feeding time and dancing. Kids can also us the MiPosaur app to interact with the dinosaur. By using the app, kids can move the MiPosaur around, or take care of him when he’s hungry by giving him various things to eat – including prehistoric men.
They can cause the creature to fight against other MiPosaurs or dance along with the music that’s played. Kids can also create a trail for the creature to follow. If they do choose to use the path tracing, you need to make sure you have a compatible device such as an iOS or Android. You will need both AA and AAA batteries and these are not included with the purchase.

Anki Overdrive

There are racing cars and then there are Supercars that own the track. That’s what Anki Overdrive is. Long gone are the days when you simply run a car across a racetrack trying to be faster than your opponent.
Not so with this. Anki Overdrive has the cars that allow you to disable the car you’re racing against. It’s a little like using the cars in an epic battle of laser tag. These futuristic cars race around tracks that are more than just tracks. By the way, this is recommended for ages 8-15.
They’re battlefields – and only the most cunning players will taste the victory. There are different game modes you can play and you can customize your car so that’s a personal battle of one on one.
You can decide how fast the car goes and the weapons that it will use to defend itself. It’s easy to get started battling it out. You have to decide which battlefield of the eight that you want to use and construct it.
Some of the top contenders are the Overpass, the Loopback and the Wedge. When you’re done setting up the track, then you download the Anki Overdrive app and you’re ready to make the road your own.
Each of the sets come with two of the Supercars, a variety of track pieces, both straight and curved, as well as two risers, the charging piece, and a tire cleaner. You can add to the sets.
The cars that you get in the set are the Groundshock and Skull and what’s really cool about these cars is that they’re the ones that can make decisions about racing and defending themselves to beat the other car.
There are many variations on how you can play the game so that no battle is ever the same as the one before. The cars themselves are quite awesome to see in action. Groundshock can make the track electrified which creates lightning to be able to disable the opponent.
It does this through electropulse. These electric blasts make it a top challenger on any of the track designs. Skull is made for speed and has a cannon that can stop an opponent in his tracks.
He comes ready to play to win. The plasma cannon shoots energy toward the other car and if it hits it, the car explodes. You can choose to upgrade variations with the cars when it comes to the speed and the weapons that they use.
These virtual weapons the cars use can be quite cunning as they work to create chaos for their opponents. When you buy this set, you will have to have a mobile device that’s compatible such as an iOS or Android. If you use the mobile devices for the battles, you have to have WiFi.
Happy Racing!

HoverTech Battle FX

There are toys that kids can play with and then after a couple of times, the fun’s pretty much gone. There’s nothing new with the toy and no kind of challenge to keep the excitement up.
Thankfully, that’s not the case with all of the toys. Take the HoverTech Battle FX for example. This toy is one that offers up something new every single time kids play with it. And it’s so challenging that kids will find themselves competing to improve their skill level each time that send it up into the air.
This toy is unique in that it’s played up in the air and while it’s moving. Kids can start it up and the hovercraft lifts off into the air, never staying still – so when kids play it, it can be a challenge to be able to correctly guess where it’s going to go next.
The game is based on a target challenge and with the HoverTech, it’s going to take a lot of patience and a lot of know-how to be able to be the best in this game. Each time the game is played, the flying course can change so it’s up to the player to learn how to anticipate and take the correct aim.
One of the many reasons that kids are clamoring to get this toy is because it’s based on an arcade type of play. Kids have to try to bring down this electronic target by carefully blasting it down.
Since the target is electronic, it’s like it has a mind of its own. Based on cutting edge technology, the HoverTech Battle FX can tell when a dart is headed its way. And it’s not going to stay still and just let someone score a direct hit.
Instead, the HoverTech has sensors that can tell it when it needs to move out of range. It can zip to the side, spin around and actually dodge the darts. This toy will be the toughest challenge of accuracy that kids will face.
It’s going to take practice to be the best of the best to be able to knock the craft out of the air. The toy has three modes that you can choose from so you can constantly attempt to improve your game play.
The more you play, the better at it that you’ll get. It’s kid against machine in this game. When you buy this toy, you’ll get the flying target, the charging station, two of the blasters and six of the darts. It’s a great game to play along or with friends. It’s suitable for ages 8-15.

Gameband Minecraft

Minecraft is a game that’s loved by kids and adults alike. Most people have the game on more than one of their electronic devices. The game is so much fun that if a player were to lose his world, it would be very upsetting.
Now, you don’t have to worry about that because you can take your game with you in an easy to wear very handy bracelet. The Gameband Minecraft can be used in a USB port to save and play your game.
The device saves the worlds that you created and allows you to move them between devices so you’re not stuck on one device ever again. It’s easy, contains personalized animations and the bracelet is durable and can be purchased in sizes to fit kids or adults.
It comes with the launcher as well as some preloaded worlds. When you play the game, it will save the game on the cloud as well. It has an LED display in the familiar red color and it has a rechargeable battery.
The 140 light LED display will show players the time, what the date is and the images created. Not only will players get to choose the animation from among those available, they’ll also have the ability to make one of their choosing and have whatever image they want.
You’ll have access to Pixel Furnace. This is where players can upload their animations or download what they want for the Gameband. The bracelet already has the maps of Seth bling, Hypixel and Dragons on it when you start it up.
When you first start the Gameband, you’ll see the worlds that are already available. Then you’ll see a variety of worlds that you’ll have access to. Besides getting these games, knowing that your games are safe on the cloud is worth the cost of the bracelet.
Kids will love being able to have their Minecraft with them at home and on the go so that can play it at a moment’s notice. Because kids aren’t always the most careful, there might come a time where they either accidentally tear up their Gameband or they leave it behind somewhere and it gets lost.
Fortunately, that doesn’t mean that they’ve lost their game forever. If you get another Gameband, your child will still be able to get to the games he’d saved on the original band.
The bracelet snaps on securely and is fairly lightweight so it won’t interfere with whatever activity that you want to do during the day. To use the cloud server, you will have to pay for this feature, but it’s not expensive at all. It’s less than a dollar a month to use this service.
You might want to check out Minecraft for Xbox 360.

Little Live Pets Clever Keet

Regardless of how much you love your child and want to give him a pet of his own, you know it might not be a wise decision because he might not be ready for the responsibility.
Or he might be ready but you can’t have a pet because of restrictions on pets where you live or you have a family member that’s allergic to pets. There is a way you can make your child happy to have a pet that’s just like a real one.
The Little Live Pets Clever Keet is just like a real parakeet but without the mess a bird makes or the responsibility it takes to care for one. This toy is an interactive toy that will delight your child.
It can be taught so many different things to do – including singing and bobbing in a little dance maneuver. The toy bird is aptly called clever because it’s smart enough to move around the accessory cart that comes with him.
Kids adore how the bird responds to them in reaction to the sound of words. Your child will want to take his little friend everywhere he goes. The bird has the ability to talk as well as sing and he can even move his wings like a real bird.
As he’s taught different words, he retains them and can speak them back. He comes with his own play equipment as well as a guide detailing how to interact and care for the toy.
The bird is smart–when he sees his own reflection, he knows who he is. Packed with the latest technology in toys, playing with this bird will never grow old. Kids as young as 3 can learn how to interact with the bird and will be delighted to hear it sing and communicate with them although the recommended age is 5-15.
This digital toy has a deep learning capacity to hold the things that it’s taught. It can engage any child in a way that will keep your child wanting to learn and interact with the bird.
The bird comes with plenty of accessories to add to the fun. You’ll get the mirror that the bird uses to see himself, a swing that he likes to rest on, and the cart he’s able to push around.
When kids first get the bird, they need to give it a name. The bird will ask for a name and when your child gives him one, the bird will respond positively in return. When your child asks the bird a question, he’ll answer. When your child makes a statement to the bird, he’ll repeat it. It’s hours of fun for your child as well as for adults.
P.S. You might want to also check out the Little Live Pets Lil’ Turtle Tank which comes with a tank, turtle,  1 AAA battery and instruction booklet. The turtle doesn’t talk but it does swim and may be a good starter “pet” for your child.

Fisher-Price Bear Smart Toy

Some interactive toys are pretty much like the next one, but not the Fisher-Price Bear Smart Toy. This toy is different in many ways. Rather than you having to switch toys as your child grows in learning and age, the toy itself will change as your child does.
What this means is that there is no one-size-fits all interactive play. Each child gets to have his or her own unique experience with this smart toy. It’s suitable for kids age 36 months to 8 years, but kids of all ages love this bear.
The bear has the ability to comprehend an extensive vocabulary of words, which enables it to be able to communicate. The bear can understand different things – such as books – and it can recognize who your child is as well as what he or she likes.
This bear is more than a smart toy. It’s a huggable friend that your child will treasure for years. Because it’s interactive, your child will be able to learn from the toy. The bear can interact in such ways as knowing what colors your child prefers.
It can also remember what kind of food your child likes to eat and the many different fun things that your child likes to do. With this ability, the bear helps your child to engage in interactive play, to learn new words and communicate.
It also helps your child be more active, be creative, and discover new things. The bear has the ability to talk to your child about different stories they can share as well as games to play.
Your child will be thrilled to spend time interacting with the bear as he learns. Because the bear is a smart toy, the interaction that it suggests will be tailored to the age of your child as well as his preferences in what he enjoys.
The toy adjusts the learning adventure based on what your child’s learning ability is. The bear can interact this way because it’s cloud-connected. This keeps the learning up to date and the information fresh and exciting.
This connection is what lets the bear continually adjust to your child’s level so there will always be something new to discover, which means your child will never be bored with the learning aspect of the toy.
The bear can recall what your child says and kids love that. Your child can use the Smart Cards to have a choice of different activities and the bear can recall what’s going on including the time and what the weather is like outside.
Parents have the ability to use a smartphone app to be able to direct the bear. You’ll also be advised of how your child is doing with his learning and what he’s engaging in. Parents can also update the bear’s content without having to pay extra.
A similar, less expensive toy (without quite as many bells and whistles) is the Intellitoys Smart-e-Bear Learning Toy.

VEX Robotics Ball Machines – one of Forbe’s Top 10 Toys for 2015!

Any toys that can be used to teach kids about power in motion are good educational and fun toys. Kids can learn and discover as they play. They’ll learn about linkages and motion as well as cause and effect.
Toys like the VEX Robotics Ball Machines are reasonably priced toys that inspire kids to learn as they play and the manufacturer has a long list of these interesting robotics ball machines.
These are modular in construction and are very budget friendly. The sets can be used configured together to make even bigger machines. The VEX Robotics Hexcalator Ball Machine is one of the robotics that has a hand crank that kids can use to create the motion that drives the wheels to move the balls uphill to the ramp and down again.
This is all hand powered, so no batteries are needed – and the set comes with eight of the balls. Kids can build a forklift using the pieces from the Forklift Ball Machine set.
By putting together the linkage, kids will create a machine that has the ability to scoop and lift the balls. Like the other machines, this one has a hand crank that allows it to scoop and lift the balls quickly.
The VEX Robotics Handoff Ball Machine has more than 220 pieces that kids can use to build it. They’ll be linking gears and cranks that can make a machine that has the ability to move balls to holding bins.
By building this machine, kids learn engineering facts like rotational and linear movement. By using the 170 piece plus set, kids can build a VEX Robotics Screw Lift Ball Machine.
The machine can lift small items and the design of this one is based on the science of the Archimedes Screw. This works by having kids use a screw that rotates so that it can lift balls.
If you have a child that’s big on sports, he’ll love the VEX Robotics Hook Shot Ball Machine. This set combines more than 180 pieces to create a machine that uses a hand crank to toss balls through a loop.
The VEX Robotics Pick & Drop Ball Machine has an impressive piece count of over 400 pieces. Using kinetic motion, kids can use the crank to move energy that makes the hands of the machine work.
When they use the crank, the hands will pick up a ball and if kids continue to run the crank, it’ll lift the ball up and drop it on the ramp. While each of these 6 sets use linkage, gears and hand cranking, kids can still add power motors if they want to take the building experience a step further.
Do you know a child who would love one of these toys?
